Greg Abbott approval hits rock bottom

the right-wing Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott’s approval rating has hit new lows as most Texans say the state is on the “wrong track,” according to a poll from The Dallas Morning News and University of Texas at Tyler.

The survey found that A whopping 54% of Texans think the state is on the wrong track. Even 29% of Abbott supporters are in that camp. Just 45% approve of the governor’s job performance.

the poll also found that Abbott’s job approval dropped among all partisan groups and among independents. 

Greg Abbott’s approval among independents dropped from 53% early last year to just 30% in the new poll.

independents are crucial in Texas elections. in sen. Ted Cruz’s winning close race in 2018, he lost independents 50-47 against Beto O’Rourke. in 2020 Trump lost independents 51-45 to Biden.

The poll was conducted Sept. 7-14. It surveyed 1,148 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
