Marjorie Taylor Greene’s fines for refusing to wear a mask in congress reached $50,000

Marjorie Taylor Greene is getting close to working for free in congress as her fines for refusing to wear a mask in the U.S. House of Representatives reaches an eye-watering $50,000.

Punchbowl is reporting that With lawmakers fined $500 for the first offense, then $2500 for each one thereafter, Greene has “has given up nearly a third of her congressional salary” as she “keeps getting hit with automatic fines”

Taylor Greene had been fined 20 times resulting in the loss of $48,000 since May. Members of the House must pay $500 for each initial violation, and an additional $2,500 for each repeat violation. 

Greene’s spokesman told The New York Post that she had been fined $500 in May for her first offense and then an additional $2,500 for every subsequent violation. In total, Greene has amassed $50,000 in fines for not wearing a mask.  

congress is set to automatically deduct the $50,000 fines from her $174,000 salary.
